JoJo Siwa Stands Firm on Her Stance Against Candace Cameron Bure's 'Traditional Marriage' Remarks
In a recent revelation, JoJo Siwa, the former Nickelodeon star, has affirmed her stance against Candace Cameron Bure's controversial comments on "traditional marriage". Siwa, who publicly came out in 2021, has been vocal about her disagreement with Bure, who she once labeled as the rudest celebrity she had ever encountered.
Last year, Siwa had a public disagreement with Bure, which seemed to have been resolved after Bure extended an apology. However, Bure's recent comments about focusing on "traditional marriages" in her new network, Great American Family, have reignited the tension. Siwa has expressed her disappointment and has decided to maintain her distance from the actress.
Bure's comments, which were perceived as homophobic, sparked a wave of criticism. Siwa, during an episode of Nick Viall's podcast, admitted that she was disconcerted by the Fuller House star's remarks. She expressed her concern about Bure's intention to create a movie that seemed to undermine the LGBTQIA+ community by focusing on traditional marriages.
Siwa explained, "It’s fine if you are doing it because it’s just your movie’s story line and it is what it is ... not everything needs to be gay essentially. But when you’re doing it out of spite to say that, ‘Too much is about LGBTQIA and you guys suck and I want to make a movie about traditional marriage and you’re not traditional,’ that got to me a little bit.”
The 20-year-old dancer and singer further stated that she has come to terms with the fact that she and Bure will never agree or be friends. She expressed her wish for Bure to be more open and accepting. Despite the disagreement, Siwa remains firm in her decision to call out Bure for her comments.
Bure, in response to the backlash, issued a statement insisting she wasn't against same-sex marriage. She expressed her disappointment over the media's attempt to divide people over a subject as comforting as Christmas movies. However, Siwa's recent comments indicate that the controversy is far from over.
