Lisa Marie Presley's Unfulfilled Ambitions: A Comeback Cut Short
Lisa Marie Presley, the only child of the legendary Elvis Presley, was planning a return to her first love, singing, before her untimely death, according to sources close to the situation. Presley, who passed away at the age of 54, was reportedly eager to show the world she was ready to reclaim her place in the music industry.
"She was really eager to show the world she was ready," an insider revealed. Not only did Presley plan to release new music, but she also intended to take on a more significant role as the leader of the Presley estate. However, her ambitions were cut short by her tragic demise.
According to the insider, Presley's ego and self-destructive tendencies played a significant role in her downfall. "But her ego got the best of her. She was killing herself all along the way and didn't even know it," the source said, referencing the shocking autopsy report released earlier this month.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner determined that Presley died from a small bowel obstruction caused by scar tissue from a bariatric procedure. The singer had undergone the weight-loss surgery in 2019 when she weighed 257 pounds. A family friend stated, "These surgeries are overwhelmingly successful, it was Lisa Marie’s own self-care after her surgery that killed her."
Presley's death came at a time when she was reportedly stressed about promoting the 2022 Elvis biopic starring Austin Butler. Insiders said she was determined to look her best during the award circuit. "She’d ballooned to an embarrassing weight before her surgery — and yo-yoed in weight even after it," a source revealed. "She was taking a lot of drugs in the last days because she wanted to look thin."
The autopsy report also revealed that Presley had the legally prescribed painkiller oxycodone in her system, as well as the antipsychotic quetiapine and buprenorphine, a drug used to treat opioid use disorder. An expert explained, "These drugs paralyze the intestines. The longer food you eat stays in your intestines, the more water is absorbed by the body, and waste becomes as hard as a rock, causing an obstruction."
The report also highlighted Presley's history of "overmedicating," "alcohol abuse," and "illicit drug use." Despite her struggles, Presley was believed to have been sober since 2015. However, she did smoke "one pack of cigarettes daily," according to the coroner's report.
Presley's untimely death and the revelations from her autopsy report have cast a shadow over her planned comeback. The singer, who was once ready to "climb to the top," was instead caught in a tragic cycle of self-destruction that ultimately cost her life.
