In the wake of impending legal troubles for her ex-husband, Michael Sterling, "Real Housewives of Atlanta" star Eva Marcille is on the brink of finalizing their divorce. This development comes as Sterling grapples with allegations of driving under the influence, RadarOnline.com reports.

Recently acquired court filings indicate that Marcille and Sterling have informed the judge handling their divorce that they have arrived at a preliminary agreement. The former couple believes the remaining issues in their divorce will be sorted out shortly. They are planning to finalize the settlement documents without resorting to mediation.

Marcille, a former cast member of RHOA, initiated the divorce proceedings on March 29. She pinpointed the wedding date as October 7, 2018, and underscored that they are currently living separate lives. Asserting that their marriage was irreparable, Marcille dismissed any possibility of reconciliation.

Marcille and Sterling are parents to three young children—Michael Sterling Jr., Maverick Sterling, and Marley Sterling. Marcille shares Marley with her previous partner, Kevin McCall, but Sterling has always embraced the child as his own.

With the divorce in motion, Marcille sought primary custody of their children along with child support. In response, Sterling initially contested the divorce, refuting Marcille's claim to divorce and denying the irreparability of their marriage. Nevertheless, the recent agreement suggests he has relinquished his hopes of reconciliation.

Beyond the divorce, Sterling is embroiled in criminal charges following an incident on February 4, 2022, in Sandy Springs, Georgia. Law enforcement officers apprehended him on suspicion of DUI, citing his "glossy and red" eyes as cause for suspicion. Despite Sterling's assertion that a medical condition was responsible for his eye condition, he was slapped with three misdemeanor charges. Sterling has pleaded not guilty, and the case remains open. Passengers from the other vehicle involved in the accident are also suing Sterling for undisclosed damages.

Marcille has issued a public statement following the initiation of the divorce proceedings, labeling it as one of the toughest decisions she has ever had to make. "Sometimes life takes your journey in a direction you were not expecting," she admitted, adding, "Our children remain our biggest priority and the eight and half years we have spent together will always be cherished." She also asked for privacy during this challenging time.
