Vanessa Bryant Claims Kobe Bryant's Death Cost Their Family 'Hundreds Of Millions' Of Dollars: Report
Court documents revealed that Kobe Bryant's wife, Vanessa Bryant, claims that the legendary basketball player's passing cost the family "hundreds of millions of dollars."
As reported earlier, Vanessa filed a lawsuit regarding the death of her husband against Island Express Helicopters in February. The lawsuit was submitted within a few weeks of Kobe and her daughter Gianna Bryant passing away in a helicopter crash.
The improper death lawsuit was filed by Vanessa's attorney of 72 pages in the Los Angeles Superior Court against Island Express, agents, and employees. The lawsuit also included the pilot, Ara George Zobayan who was flying Sikorsky S-76 helicopter.
As part of the ill-advised lawsuit that was filed this year, the pilot is held responsible for not keeping a track and failing to assess the weather ahead of the takeoff, which led to incorrect weather data before the aforesaid flight, and not aborting the flight despite been aware of the cloudy conditions, and several other accusations.
The pilot, who also succumbed to the deadly crash had a "duty to use that degree of care that an ordinarily careful and the prudent pilot would use under the same or similar circumstances."
However, the documents submitted to the court reveals that Vanessa is asking for non-economic damages, economic damages, punitive damages, prejudgment interest along with other relief for Gianna and Kobe's death.
The papers filed also revealed that the precise amount of the damage caused a personal injury that Vanessa seeks is to be discussed while Kobe Bryant's estimated future earnings are equivalent to "hundreds of millions of dollars."
When the other party, Island Express was contacted, they refused to comment. Earlier this year, the wrongful death lawsuit was filed that accused the pilot of failing the asses the weather and properly monitoring before takeoff. Also, failing to collect proper data of weather at that moment before the subject flight and even after knowing the cloudy conditions, the pilot failed to abort the flight as per the lawsuit.
Maintaining the control of the helicopter and failed to avoid obstacles occurred naturally in the way of the flight while keeping a safe distance between the obstacles and the helicopter. Many more accuses are mentioned in the lawsuit that has resulted in this crash.
Island Express Helicopters spokesperson made a statement after the incident, "This was a tragic accident. We will have no comment on the pending litigation." The American basketball player, his 13-year-old daughter, three out of nine pilots lost their lives in the fatal crash that happened in Calif on Jan. 26.
Other victims were Christina Mauser, Sarah, and Payton Chester, Keri and Alyssa Altobelli, and John. Late pilot's representative, Berge Zobayan submitted an answer to Vanessa's wrongful death lawsuit with Superior Court of the State of California on May 8.
