Big Hit Entertainment And K-Pop Group BTS Donates $1 Million To Black Lives Matter
South Korean entertainment company, Big Hit Entertainment, and South Korean boy band BTS has donated $1 million to the international human rights movement, Black Lives Matter. Unlike many Hollywood stars, superstars of K-pop chose to stay away from social media to make any comments but didn't refrain from making their contribution, which was confirmed by both Big Hit, as well as Black Lives Matter.
As per Variety, Kailee Scales, managing director of Black Lives Matter told that black people across the globe are in deep pain amid murder of George Floyd and going through the trauma of oppression from centuries. Scales told further how they are moved by BTS's generosity and around the globe allies who are coming forward in solidarity to stand tall with the Black Lives Matter movement.
Without making any hints towards the donation, earlier in June, the BTS took Twitter to express themselves on George Floyd protests and against the racial discrimination. They condemn violence and said everyone has the right to get equal respect along with the hashtag of #BlackLivesMatter.
The contribution of $1 million came after the K-pop fans helped to drown #WhiteLivesMatter which was trending on social media. One of the 17-year-old Twitter user's account got suspended after spamming the white supremacist who came up with the hashtag of #WhiteLivesMatter and revealed that the idea came from the Dallas Police Department app.
This ONEUS and BTS fan from California further told Rolling Stone, the spamming was done to support the protest as K-pop fans agreed that people protesting and gathered for justice were not supposed to be arrested. Since this method of spamming seems successful, it was done for hateful tweets coming from white-supremacists as it is important to support the movement of BLM.
The twitter handle of Lovely Doya, that is suspended now, further mentioned that it is important to bring justice to all those innocent lives that have been lost due to racist police officers. The handle further says that it is something that countless other fans of K-pop believe in.
