'General Hospital' Star Jacklyn Zeman Passes Away at 70
Renowned actress Jacklyn Zeman, celebrated for her role as Bobbie Spencer on the popular soap opera "General Hospital," has passed away at the age of 70.
Frank Valentini, the show's executive producer, paid tribute to Zeman in a statement on Twitter, saying, "Just like her character, the legendary Bobbie Spencer, she was a bright light and true professional that brought so much positive energy with her to work."
Valentini added, "Jackie will be greatly missed, but her positive spirit will always live on with our cast and crew. We send our heartfelt sympathy to her loved ones, friends, and family, especially her daughters Cassidy and Lacey." Zeman's family revealed to ABC News that she had a brief battle with cancer.
Throughout her 40-year career, Zeman appeared in over 800 episodes of "General Hospital" and was nominated for a Daytime Emmy in the "Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series" category for her portrayal of Nurse Spencer. The show acknowledged her contributions in a Twitter post, stating, "Jacklyn Zeman has been a beloved member of the 'General Hospital' and ABC family since she originated the iconic role of Bobbie Spencer over 45 years ago."
Born in New Jersey, Zeman began her acting journey in high school before attending New York University to study dance. She worked as a Playboy Bunny before securing her first significant television role as Lana McClain in "One Life to Live."
Fellow "General Hospital" cast members expressed their sorrow over Zeman's passing through heartfelt messages. Kathleen Gati, who plays Dr. Liesl Obrecht on the show, said, "I am heartbroken to hear this news. One of the kindest people I have ever met. My deepest condolences to her family, friends and fans."
Parry Shen, who portrays Brad Cooper, described Zeman as an "absolute legend" and shared that he enjoyed hearing her stories about the show from the 1970s and 1980s. He added, "Always so kind & down to earth. You will be so missed, Jackie. Condolences to her daughters, family & legions of fans who have loved Bobbie Spencer for decades."
Zeman is survived by her two children, Cassidy and Lacey.
