Royal Ruckus: Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's Financial Feud with Prince Charles
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's departure from the royal family was fueled by financial disagreements with Prince Charles, who was unwilling to fund the couple's lavish lifestyle, according to palace insiders. The ongoing conflict between the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and the British royal family is said to be rooted in Charles' refusal to provide financial support for Meghan.
A high-level courtier revealed, "This royal rift is all down to cold hard cash! Prince Harry was crazy in love and desperate to keep his wife happy, but his dad wouldn’t foot the bill."
Author Robert Jobson reports that shortly after Harry announced his intention to marry Meghan, Prince Charles informed his younger son that he could not afford to support Meghan financially. Charles was already providing for his wife, Camilla, as well as Prince William, Kate, and their children.
In his new book, "Our King: Charles III — The Man and the Monarch Revealed," Jobson writes that Harry was infuriated by his father's decision, leading to a secret falling-out. A palace source adds, "When Charles vetoed putting Meghan on the royal payroll, the lines of war were drawn."
Harry and Meghan were determined to maintain a luxurious lifestyle, which included aspirations for Meghan to become a "real-life pampered princess with all the trappings of a Hollywood star." However, without Charles' financial backing, the couple faced significant challenges in fulfilling these dreams.
According to another source, Meghan was disappointed to discover that Harry's net worth was only $30 million, inherited from his mother, Princess Diana. Author Tom Bower adds, "She imagined he’d be worth hundreds of millions, if not billions. She wants to ride in big Cadillacs, private jets on command."
After stepping back from their royal duties in 2020, the Sussexes reportedly lost $5.5 million in royal income as Charles cut off their financial support. The couple now bears significant expenses, including their $14 million Montecito mansion and Meghan's ambitious career goals.
In order to maintain their desired lifestyle, sources say that Harry and Meghan have capitalized on their royal titles through TV and book deals worth millions. The couple's controversial Netflix documentary and Harry's tell-all memoir, Spare, have fueled tensions between the Sussexes and the royal family.
As one royal insider states, "Henpecked Harry is terrified of losing Meghan. He’s publicly admitted she threatened to leave him after a vicious argument and vowed to keep her in the ultra-luxurious lifestyle she demands. So the Sussexes are peddling the only thing they have — their royal titles. And they’ll keep doing it as long as it sells!"
