Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's Popularity Dips as Prince William, Kate Middleton, and King Charles Gain Favor
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle face a setback as a new poll indicates their popularity has dwindled compared to other members of the British Royal Family. This comes after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced that only Harry would attend King Charles's Coronation in the UK, with Meghan staying in California with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
Harry is set to attend the May 6 service at Westminster Abbey for his father's official crowning as monarch but is expected to miss the Coronation concert at Windsor Castle and subsequent events.
A recent poll revealed that a mere 14% of UK respondents consider Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to be good role models. In contrast, 71% view Prince William and Kate Middleton as such, up 7% since the question was last posed in 2020.
Furthermore, 64% of those surveyed would remove Harry from the line of succession if given the chance, just 15% behind the embattled Prince Andrew. When asked who had inflicted more harm on the Royal Family, 46% named Prince Andrew, and 43% chose Prince Harry, as per the MailOnline poll. In the question of which son best carried on Princess Diana's legacy, 50% favored Prince William over Harry.
However, there was support for Harry and Meghan's children, with a majority approving of granting Archie and Lilibet royal titles. King Charles's popularity has also grown since he ascended the throne, with 64% now believing he will make a good king. But opinions on Camilla becoming Queen Consort were less favorable, with only 14% in support compared to 36% against.
In stark contrast, a separate poll conducted in the US reveals an uptick in the couple's popularity following their Coronation decision. The Newsweek survey questioned 1,500 registered American voters about their views on various British Royal Family members.
The results showed that 39% of respondents had a favorable opinion of Harry, up from 32% in February. Meghan's popularity also rose to 33% in April, compared to 27% two months prior.
