Queen Consort Camilla Distressed by Prince Harry's Unflattering Depiction in Memoir 'Spare'
Queen Consort Camilla experienced feelings of disappointment and hurt after Prince Harry portrayed her as his "wicked stepmother" in his revealing memoir, Spare, which was released on Tuesday, January 10.
"Of course it bothers her, of course it hurts. But she doesn’t let it get to her," Fiona Petty-Fitzmaurice, Marchioness of Lansdowne, shared with a news outlet following the Duke of Sussex's unfavorable depiction of Camilla in the narrative of his royal downfall.
Although Queen Consort Camilla felt betrayed by her younger stepson, who alleged that she had "sacrificed" him on her "personal PR altar," Lady Lansdowne confirmed that the 75-year-old has no intention of publicly addressing the issue.
"Don’t make a thing of it and it will settle down," Fiona explained, describing the Queen Consort's approach. "She is resilient, she was brought up with this extraordinary sense of duty where you got on with it, don’t whinge, put your best face on and keep going."
Some insiders have suggested that Prince Harry should be "at the very least, slightly terrified" of the "lady boss" he appeared to disrespect in his explosive manuscript, noting that Camilla "can be steely as f***" and would not hesitate to confront the 38-year-old about his missteps.
The Queen Consort's reaction to Prince Harry's memoir comes after the military veteran criticized the entire royal family, including his stepmother, father King Charles, and brother Prince William, in not only his memoir but also the Netflix docuseries "Harry & Meghan" and several explosive interviews.
“I have complex feelings about gaining a step-parent," Harry wrote of Camilla, whom he dubbed the "Other Woman" for marrying King Charles following the death of his first wife and mother of his children, Princess Diana.
Camilla's entry into Harry's life as a young boy was described by him as an "injection," writing: "Close your eyes and you won’t even feel it."
"I remember wondering... if she would be cruel to me; if she would be like all the evil stepmothers in the stories," the estranged royal added, alluding to the classic tale of Cinderella.
