Prince Harry Set to Attend King Charles III's Coronation, Meghan Markle to Stay in California
Prince Harry has confirmed his attendance at his father King Charles III's coronation, while Meghan Markle will remain in California with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
Buckingham Palace announced the news, stating, "The Duke of Sussex will attend the coronation service at Westminster Abbey on May 6." The statement continued, "The Duchess of Sussex will remain in California with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet." The confirmation brings an end to the speculation surrounding the couple's involvement in the event.
This marks Prince Harry's first reunion with the royal family since the publication of his explosive memoir, "Spare," earlier this year. As Page Six previously reported, Prince Harry sought clarification from Buckingham Palace regarding seating arrangements and security measures before confirming his attendance.
It is expected that Prince Harry will stay at Frogmore Cottage, his Windsor residence, for the last time as King Charles III has requested that he and Meghan vacate the property.
The royal family has faced a challenging few months, with Prince Harry's memoir making several damning claims about his father, brother Prince William, and sister-in-law Kate Middleton. Among the allegations, he accused Charles of being a distant parent, disclosed a physical altercation with William, and claimed that William and Kate were the ones who encouraged him to wear the now-infamous Nazi party costume.
Having stepped down from their roles as senior royals in March 2020, Prince Harry and Meghan relocated to California. Prince Harry has since expressed his expectation for an apology from his family.
While communication between Prince Harry and his father and brother appears to be limited, it has been made clear that he will not be permitted to stand on the palace balcony alongside King Charles and Queen Camilla, as he is no longer a working royal. Instead, the monarch will be joined by a select few who represent the "heartbeat and future of his family" and have dedicated their lives to public service.
Following the coronation ceremony at Westminster Abbey, King Charles and Queen Camilla, 75, will travel to Buckingham Palace in a gold state coach, accompanied by other family members.
During Queen Elizabeth II's funeral in September 2022, also held at Westminster Abbey, Prince Harry and Meghan were seated in the second row. With Meghan staying in California for the coronation, the focus will be on Prince Harry's interactions with the royal family during this historic event.
