Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn Part Ways: A Look Into the "Differences" That Caused Their Breakup - Report
After six years together, Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn have decided to end their relationship. A source close to the award-winning singer and the Conversations with Friends actor reveals that the breakup was primarily due to their contrasting personalities, according to PEOPLE.
"Friends believed they would take a break and eventually reunite after facing rough patches before, but in the end, Taylor, 33, and Joe, 32, just weren't the right match for each other," the source explains. Swift and Alwyn's representatives have not commented on the split.
The "Lavender Haze" singer and the British actor were first linked publicly in May 2017, after they had been discreetly dating for several months. Fans speculate that the couple initially met at the 2016 Met Gala.
The source says, "During the Reputation era, they fell in love in a secure environment while Taylor was withdrawing from the world. The pandemic allowed them to nurture their relationship in a sheltered manner, but Joe hadn't really gotten to know her outside that context."
Throughout their time together, Swift and Alwyn maintained a private romance, avoiding engagement rumors in recent years.
The couple connected over their shared love for art and creativity, resulting in 10 songs co-written and/or co-produced by Alwyn under the pseudonym William Bowery. The collaborations span six tracks on Folklore, three on Evermore, and "Sweet Nothing" on Midnights.
However, insiders claim that Alwyn, who often expressed his desire for privacy during interviews, struggled with the spotlight surrounding Swift. "Their differing personalities became more noticeable over time, causing them to drift apart," the source adds.
Multiple sources reveal that Swift and Alwyn were discussing marriage just a few months ago. Yet, they ultimately decided against a future together. "Taylor didn't envision them lasting long-term," says the insider, who confirms the split occurred "recently" and without drama.
"They remain on friendly terms. Taylor has no ill feelings toward Joe," the insider continues. "They simply grew apart. She is now concentrating on her tour."
Despite their separation, the source emphasizes, "There is still a great deal of respect between them."
Swift is currently performing on The Eras Tour across North America. During a recent concert, she replaced the soulmate-focused Folklore track "Invisible String" with "The 1," a song about lost love and reminiscing about the past.
Swift was seen filming a music video in Liverpool, England, last week after her Arlington, Texas concerts. She is set to perform in Tampa, Florida, on April 13, 14, and 15.
