Jeremy Renner's Road to Recovery Filled with Family and Gratitude, Friend Reveals
As Jeremy Renner recovers from a severe snowplow accident, the 52-year-old actor's home is filled with love and support from his family. Rory Millikin, Renner's close friend and executive producer of Rennervations, told PEOPLE about the role family members have played since the January 1 accident on Renner's property outside Reno, Nevada.
"His mom's here constantly. She moved in to take care, just like moms do. Mothers play such an incredible role of support," Millikin shares. "This house is just overflowing with nieces, nephews, cousins, and siblings all the time. It's like a wonderful big family compound, and everyone has played a huge role."
Millikin praises Renner's sister Kym for her organizational skills and involvement, saying she's "been unbelievable and quarterbacking everything."
The Marvel actor, father to 10-year-old daughter Ava, underwent multiple surgeries after the accident left him with over 30 broken bones and in critical but stable condition. Millikin describes the atmosphere when Renner returned home from the hospital: "There was gratefulness that he survived and gratefulness for his family. I think that's the best way to put it."
According to Millikin, Renner's focus on others during his own recovery is a testament to his character. "He's just a very unique, incredible guy," Millikin says. He also adds that Renner's "mood is inspirational" and that he "carries this burden very heroically."
In addition to his family's support, the millions of fans who have sent well wishes have made a significant impact on Renner. "His mood is great. It's strengthened by family and friends, who have been wonderful," Millikin notes. "It sounds cheesy, but thanks for all the support from fans actually had a huge impact on him. He was reading through them all, and he actually spent the time reading a lot of these things, and it gave him a lot of strength."
Rennervations, Renner's new show, premieres April 12 on Disney+.
