In a contentious interview on CBS's "60 Minutes," Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) reaffirmed her accusation that Democrats are "pedophiles," criticized establishment Republicans, and called for an end to U.S. aid to Ukraine. The interview, conducted by veteran journalist Lesley Stahl, drew widespread criticism on social media, particularly from liberal commentators.

During the interview, Stahl questioned Greene about her past statements labeling Democrats as "the party of pedophiles." The Georgia congresswoman replied, "I would definitely say so," alleging that Democrats support grooming children and sexualizing them through transgender surgeries, without providing evidence.

She added, "Sexualizing children is what pedophiles do to children."

Greene also expressed her disappointment with several GOP lawmakers, claiming they did not follow through on former President Donald Trump's priorities while he was in office. She specifically called out former House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI), Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), and Sen. Mitt Romney (R-UT) for their perceived failures.

Furthermore, Greene defended her opposition to providing financial aid and weapons to Ukraine, saying, "What I have voted against is funding a war in Ukraine. The entire time I have been saying the United States needs to be pushing for peace in Ukraine, not funding a proxy war with Russia."

Many viewers and political analysts took issue with Stahl's handling of the interview, accusing her of not challenging Greene sufficiently on her controversial claims.

The Atlantic's Tom Nichols tweeted, "Stahl interviewed Greene as if she were just another someone unusual member of Congress with some out-there ideas. Showed MTG some of her worst stuff, and MTG just waved it away, and Stahl let it all slide."

Activist and speaker Victor Shi also expressed disappointment with the interview, stating, "Don't get me wrong: I respect Leslie Stahl. But that interview she just did with Marjorie Taylor Greene was truly terrible." Shi, a delegate for President Biden in 2020, criticized Stahl for providing "little to no pushback" and allowing Greene to "get away with lie after lie."

Author Molly Jong-Fast joined the chorus of critics, tweeting, "Elevating a mini trumper because that worked out so well last time." The backlash highlights the ongoing controversy surrounding Greene's political views and the challenges journalists face when interviewing polarizing figures.
