Gwen Stefani On Blake Shelton’s ‘The Voice’ Exit: ‘I Feel Sorry For Everybody’
Gwen Stefani feels “sorry” that Blake Shelton will leave “The Voice.” She knows the move will not be easy, especially for the fans who will have tuned in on the show for 23 seasons.
Speaking to Entertainment Tonight at the 2022 Matrix Awards in New York City on Wednesday, the 53-year-old songstress shared some of her thoughts about her husband’s exit. She also touched on the country singer’s future endeavors and how she feels about them.
Stefani deemed Shelton’s exit as “weird,” adding that she “wasn’t ready.” She explained that she has to “figure out who this new Blake’s gonna be,” although she said she is “just so proud of him.”
Aside from her mixed emotions, the “Hollaback Girl” singer also told the outlet that the “God’s Country” artist, whom she described as “talented,” has “brought so much joy” in it.
She added that she knows how fans “wait around to laugh and watch him on TV,” which is why she feels sorry for the fans as her husband will no longer be around on the show.
Blake Shelton announced his exit from “The Voice” earlier this month. He told fans and followers on Instagram that he has decided to “step away” after Season 23, which will air in 2023, according to HollywoodLife.
The publication quoted the country artist’s statement, with which a part of it read, “This show has changed my life in every way for the better and it will always feel like home to me. It’s been a hell of a ride over these 12 years of chair turns and I want to thank everyone at ‘The Voice’ from NBC, every producer, the writers, musicians, crew and catering people, you are the best.”
The outlet later noted that Shelton, who married Gwen Stefani in July 2021, has the most wins out of any judges on “The Voice,” with eight victories throughout his stay the course of the show.
Days after the announcement, it was revealed that the “Red River Blue” artist will take on a new project with “The Voice” host Carson Daly. The two personalities have collaborated to executive produce and star on a competition show for USA Network titled “Barmageddon.”
Elsewhere in the exchange with ET, published Wednesday, Gwen Stefani shared an insight into her husband’s new and upcoming project. She revealed that she will be on the show before joking about being Blake Shelton’s “guinea pig.”
The “Cool” singer went on to say that she “was the first episode,” alongside Sheryl Crow. She also described it as a “fun show” and “completely different from ‘The Voice,’” noting that the material is “literally just people hanging out and doing games in a bar, so right up Blake’s alley.”
