Kate Middleton ‘Not A Princess’ In Own Right, Experts Say
Kate Middleton is now the new Princess of Wales. But, despite having it on her new title, experts reportedly asserted that she is “not a princess by her own right.”
Express UK shared in its recent report that the matter was discussed during a recent engagement on TalkTv’s “Royal Tea.” As stated, it came after royal expert Valentine Low pointed out that the royal has not gained the title “Princess Kate.”
During the said discussion, fellow expert Matt Wilkinson reportedly revealed that they have similar concerns at “The Sun” with the titles of the new Princess of Wales. He is noted to have asserted that “she’s always been our Kate,” adding that “when she was dating William, she was always Kate.”
The royal expert also stated that discussions on the matter became apparent. He said there were talks on whether they would “now show the ultimate spectacle or Princess Catherine or Princess of Wales, which are a bit too long," as per the outlet.
The publication continued that, in response to the statements, Valentine Low, who authored “Courtiers: The Hidden Power Behind the Crown,” claimed that Kate Middleton is not a princess.
Express UK, in the same report published Saturday, quoted the royal author, saying, “She’s not Princess Catherine, of course. If anything, she’s Princess Charles.”
It continues, “She's not a princess in her own right. Diana wasn't. Welcome to the world of the royals.”
The Duchess of Cornwall and Cambridge’s title has become a matter of discussion these past few weeks. People even previously stated that the “great debate” over the subject had begun again following King Charles III’s accession to the British Throne.
The magazine noted in its report, published earlier in September, that the King passed his “Prince of Wales” title to Prince William when he assumed his new role. This has then made Kate Middleton the new Princess of Wales.
It continued that the future Queen Consort prefers to go by her first name, Catherine. This is despite being popularly known as Kate, adding that she is “most widely searched online” using her maiden name.
People pointed out, however, that Kate Middleton is “properly styled as Catherine, Princess of Wales rather than ‘Princess Catherine.’” It added that this is according to the experts at Debrett’s, which is a U.K. authority on etiquette and titles.
Meanwhile, aside from the “Princess of Wales” title, the royal has also acquired a new peerage: Duchess of Cornwall.
But, as the magazine stated, she retains her “Duchess of Cambridge” title, which she received when she married Prince William in 2011, making her Duchess of Cornwall and Cambridge, as well.
