Racial tensions are at an all-time high in the United States because of the killing of George Floyd. It is in the midst of these heated emotions that Star Wars actor John Boyega jumped in, sparking heated discussion before he went on to upload a video on his Instagram calling out racists.

Page Six reports that the online kerfuffle began when the 28-year-old Star Wars star tweeted that he “really f--king hates racists.” The fiery statement drew a lot of reactions from Twitter users who flooded his replies with different arguments.

As documented by Metro, the responses to Boyega’s statement range from unusual to combative to condescending.

A Nigerian Twitter user, for instance, made the unusual statement that he separated from his girlfriend because she hated white people. Boyega replied that what he was talking about was the one perpetrated by white people on black people.

Another user insisted to Boyega that racism can come from anyone, to which the actor replied that he did not care and it was not what he was talking about, He also rallied against those who he said were “forcing” him to talk about things he was not talking about.

When another person questioned whether hate was the way to resolve the issue of racism in the United States, Boyega essentially told the commenter to f--k off with a gif of Gordon Ramsey. He advised yet another Twitter user to be quiet when the person admonished him to hate racism and not the racist.

However, Boyega eventually had enough of the commenters on Twitter and migrated to Instagram instead. Using the app’s Live feature, Boyega implored his followers to “ignore ignorance.” He deplored the killing of George Floyd before going into a full-blown, expletive-filled rant.

Boyega said “f--k you” to racist white people and called on them to “suck a d--k” if they disapproved of what he said on Twitter. He also called racist fans and supporters of his work and asked them to f--k off and calling them f--king d--kheads before ending his rant.

This rant on two social media platforms isn’t the first time that Boyega has engaged testily with an online audience. Two years ago, he called out Star Wars fans that had continuously attacked then-newbie actress Kelly Marie Tran. The harassment that Tran was getting was vicious that the actress decided to quit all social media instead of enduring all of it.
