King Charles III Alleged June 3 Coronation Date Not Confirmed, Buckingham Palace Calls It ‘Pure Speculation’
King Charles III is making headlines today amid reports that his coronation date has officially been set.
According to Page Six, the new monarch will be crowned in a much smaller ceremony compared to Queen Elizabeth on June 3.
If the date was accurate, this means that King Charles III would be 74 on the day of his coronation. This also makes him the oldest British monarch to ever be crowned.
However, a source told Mirror UK that reports regarding the date of King Charles III’s coronation are just based purely on speculation. After all, nothing has been finalized yet.
According to the publication, it’s not uncommon for monarchs to wait for their coronation for several months because the ceremony doesn’t immediately take place after they take on the position.
It is important to note that monarchs become king and queen following the death of a former monarch. This means that even after the mourning period is over, the royal family is still reeling from the aftermath of loving their loved one.
The exact same thing happened to Queen Elizabeth, who became monarch immediately after the death of her dad, King George VI on Feb. 6, 1952.
However, the queen was only crowned on June 2, 1953. This means that she waited 16 months for the coronation ceremony to take place.
King George VI, on the other hand, also waited for 5 months for his coronation ceremony after his brother, Edward abdicated from the throne.
By the looks of it, the date of King Charles III’s coronation is being speculated to take place on June 3 because the queen was crowned on June 2.
However, there is no set time or date when coronations take place because King George VI was crowned in May 1937.
What’s for certain is that once the date of King Charles III’s is confirmed, the palace will announce it to the world. The coronation will also most likely be televised.
During King Charles III’s coronation, his wife, Queen Consort Camilla will also be ordained in her role. However, it is unclear if she will also be wearing a crown just like the late queen because royal fans still have not forgotten the fact that she and King Charles III had an affair decades ago.
