Scarlett Johansson recently shared the inspiration behind the name of her and Colin Jost’s first child. She also revealed how and why they came up with the moniker “Cosmo” for their son.

Entertainment Tonight reported that the 37-year-old actress talked about the matter during an appearance on “The Kelly Clarkson Show.” It came after the singer and talk show host asked her how she and her husband arrived at the decision with the name.

Johansson is said to have initially quipped that they “just threw a bunch of letters together.” She noted, later on, though, that she just thought “it was charming,” adding that their friends liked the name “Cosmo.”

The publication continued that Kelly Clarkson pointed out the floral connection in the names of Scarlett Johansson’s two children. As stated, the two celebrities have 8-year-old daughters, whom they named “Rose.”

This reportedly led the “Avengers” actress to explain that the name she and her husband gave to their son “is a really sweet little flower that comes in different shades of orange and yellow.” She added that this is also the reason why her eldest child “liked it too.”

Elsewhere in the engagement, Johansson is said to have revealed that her mother-in-law “had a little bit of a harder time” with the name. She told Clarkson that Jost’s mother “kept suggesting other versions of it for a while.”

Colin Jost and Scarlett Johansson welcomed their first child together in 2021. They did not reveal the exact date of the child's birth but they made the announcement in mid-August.

At the time, Marcel Pariseau, the rep for the “Marriage Story” actress, exclusively confirmed to People that the celebrity couple “recently welcomed” their first child together.

The “Saturday Night Live” writer is a first-time parent, while Johansson is already a mother to her daughter from a previous marriage.

On Instagram the following day, Jost also made an announcement about the arrival of their son. He also revealed that they named him “Cosmo,” although he pointed out that “privacy would be greatly appreciated.”

Scarlett Johansson and Colin Jost have long been low-key about their relationship. They rarely share details with the public, making it unclear how or when they first met.

But, Us Weekly recalled that the two celebrities first sparked romance rumors in May 2017. It was not until the following year, though, that they made their first red carpet appearance as a couple.

In May 2019, the actress’s publicist confirmed to the Associated Press that she and Jost were engaged.

The celebrity couple secretly tied the knot in October 2020. News of the nuptials was announced by Meals on Wheels through its official Instagram account.
