Zendaya On Her Historic Emmy Win: ‘It Means The World To Me’
Zendaya has officially become a two-time Emmy-winning actress after winning this year’s award for the lead actress in a drama series.
Following the event, Entertainment Tonight chatted up with the 26-year-old celebrity and talked about the latest feat in her career.
The “Euphoria” star said that the win for the night was “so special” to her.” She noted that it was “such an honor to be acknowledged for something that [she is] really proud of,” adding that “it means the world to [her].”
The actress, whose full name is, Zendaya Maree Stoermer Coleman, later shared that she was “so happy for so many of [their] behind-the-scenes folks getting so much acknowledgement,” referencing the “cinematography and editing.” She pointed out that “they deserve it so much” as “they put so much into” the HBO drama.
Zendaya’s win at the Emmys 2022 is a historic one.
Variety explained that, following the feat, the 26-year-old star became the youngest actress to win two Emmys and the first Black woman to win the Emmy for lead actress in a drama series twice.
It also recalled that the “Spider-Man: Homecoming” actress first made history in 2020 when she won her first Emmy. As it happened, she became the youngest actress ever to win the award for the same category and the same material, “Euphoria.”
In her speech, the songstress thanked her loved ones, the cast and crew of the HBO series, and the people who shared their stories of addiction with her.
The magazine later quoted Zendaya’s speech, writing, “My greatest wish for ‘Euphoria’ was that it could help heal people, and I just want to say thank you to everyone who shared their story with me.”
It continues, “I want you to know that anyone who has loved a Rue or feels like you are a Rue, I’m so grateful for your stories and I carry them with me and carry them with her. Thank you so much.”
Elsewhere in the exchange with ET, Zendaya shared her celebratory plans, as well as some information as to why Tom Holland did not receive a shout-out from her during the speech.
The “Dune” actress said she would “take it easy” and “have an easy night.” She explained that she has “work,” so she would do a “cute little two-step and head on home.”
As for the shout-out for the Marvel actor or the lack thereof, the Disney Channel alum said Holland is “part of [her] loved ones.”
Zendaya attended the Emmys solo on Monday. The “Spider-Man: No Way Home” star was missing from the event and was also quiet on social media, according to ELLE.
But, the publication noted that Tom Holland’s absence was "understandable" as he has been filming his new movie, “The Crowded Room” in New York City.
