Prince William Expresses ‘Deep Affection’ For Wales Following New Title From King
Prince William and Kate Middleton have taken new roles as the Prince and Princess of Wales following the Queen’s passing. Upon receiving the titles from King Charles III, he opened up about the matter and shared how honored he was to be made Prince of Wales.
Us Weekly said the Heir Apparent spoke about his new role and title with the nation’s first minister, Mark Drakeford, on Sunday. He is said to have gushed about the country, as well as his hopes of visiting it soon.
The Duke of Cornwall and Cambridge is also stated to have talked about his “deep affection” for Wales and acknowledged his Welsh experiences. He reportedly revealed, as well, how he hopes to serve the nation as its newest Prince.
The exchange between Prince William and the Welsh first minister was confirmed by Kensington Palace, according to Reuters.
An official statement from the palace said, “The Prince acknowledged his and the Princess’s deep affection for Wales, having made their first family home in Anglesey including the earliest months of Prince George’s life.”
It continues, “The Prince and Princess will spend the months and years ahead deepening their relationship with communities across Wales.”
Reports later noted that the Prince and Princess of Wales “want to do their part to support the aspirations of the Welsh people and to shine a spotlight on both the challenges and opportunities in front of them,” per the statement.
King Charles III named Prince William and Kate Middleton the new Prince and Princess of Wales. He made it known during his first address from Buckingham Palace on Friday, the day after Queen Elizabeth II passed away.
The new British Monarch said he was “proud to create” his son “Princes of Wales, Tywysog Cymru.” He also noted that with the Duchess of Cornwall and Cambridge beside his eldest son, the “new Prince and Princess of Wales will… continue to inspire and lead our national conversations.”
In the same address, the former Prince of Wales stated that the couple, who will one day become the King and Queen Consort, would help “bring the marginal to the center ground where vital help can be given.”
Prince William and Kate Middleton’s last official visit to Wales was in June, according to People. They went to the capital Cardiff, along with their two eldest children, as part of Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
Prior to their last visit, the Prince and Princess of Wales went to Abergavenny to spend St. David’s Day, which is a national celebration in the country. They visited a farm and planted a tree during the engagement.
