Prince Harry, Meghan Markle Extend UK Stay Following Queen Elizabeth II’s Death
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are reportedly extending their stay in the United Kingdom. It comes after the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, who died “peacefully” at Balmoral on Thursday.
E! News shared the latest changes in the former working royals’ schedule on Friday. It noted, however, that the details about the pair’s extended stay in the U.K. have not been disclosed yet.
Even so, the outlet said the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are “more likely planning to join” the rest of the British Royal Family in the next few days of mourning.
“Finding Freedom” author Omid Scobie made similar claims in a Twitter post on Friday. He shared that Prince Harry left Balmoral earlier that day after spending the night, adding that he had made his way back to Windsor, where he and Meghan Markle have been staying since they arrived over the weekend.
The royal expert also noted in his post that the Duke of Sussex “will, of course, remain in the [United Kingdom] during this time. He did not mention the Duchess of Sussex, though, whether she would stay, as well, alongside her husband.
No official word has been heard yet from the former working royals’ camp. They have yet to confirm their reported stay in the country.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry reportedly arrived in the United Kingdom over the weekend. The couple’s return to the country marked their first joint working visit since stepping back from their royal posts in 2020.
On Monday, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex appeared at the One Young World Summit in Manchester. People reported that they participated in a private round table on gender equality earlier in the day and later stepped onto the stage, with the former actress giving the keynote address at the opening ceremony.
The former working royals flew to Germany in the days that followed for an Invictus Games event. They were set to return to the U.K. for the WellChild Awards on Thursday, but they missed the event following the official statement from Buckingham Palace concerning Queen Elizabeth II’s health.
Members of the British Royal Family, including Prince Harry, flew to Balmoral in Scotland to be with the Queen. However, Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton did not join their spouses on the trip.
Entertainment Tonight said the Duchess of Sussex remained in London, while the Duchess of Cornwall and Cambridge stayed with her and Prince William’s children in Windsor.
Later that day, Buckingham Palace announced that Queen Elizabeth II had passed “peacefully” at Balmoral.
