Zac Efron Addresses ‘Jaw-Gate’ Speculations, Reveals Truth Behind Plastic Surgery Rumors
Zac Efron recently opened up about the plastic surgery rumors he faced over his jaw. It comes more than a year after the speculations surfaced across media platforms, with many alleging he looked different in an Earth Day special clip.
Speaking to Men’s Health magazine for a cover feature, the 34-year-old actor shared the story behind the changed appearance. He noted that it came after he shattered his jaw, though it was not a training injury.
People, in its recent piece covering the exchange, recalled that the accident was from 2013. As stated, he fell over at his home and broke his jaw, causing the muscles involved to work extra hard.
Zac Efron told the magazine that he was in his socks when he ran through his house at the time. When he slipped, he smacked his chin against the granite corner of a fountain.
The “That Awkward Moment” star continued that he lost consciousness following the accident. He also recalled that his chin bone was hanging off his face upon waking up.
Efron explained that the “masseter muscles,” which are used for chewing, should operate “like a symphony” with the rest of the muscles on the face. But, the injury he obtained meant it was no longer the case for him.
The “High School Musical” alum noted that he was working with a specialist and did physical therapy to help him recover. However, he stopped when he flew to Australia, where he worked on “Down To Earth” Season 2, causing the muscles to grow.
People quoted Zac Efron from the feature interview, saying, “The masseters just grew. They just got really, really big.”
The “Greatest Showman” actor later revealed that he learned about the plastic surgery rumors from his mother. He shared that his mom called him to ask if he had undergone some cosmetic procedures, which the publication referred to as “jaw-gate.”
Elsewhere in the exchange with Men’s Health magazine, published Wednesday, Zac Efron revealed he is currently “bulking up” for an undisclosed film role. However, he pointed out that he is no longer interested in achieving the body he had for his 2017 movie, “Baywatch.”
A separate report from People, covering the part of the interview, quoted the “17 Again,” sharing, “That ‘Baywatch’ look, I don’t know if that’s really attainable. There’s just too little water in the skin.”
Efron also described the figure as “fake,” adding that “it looks CGI’d.” Moreover, he stated that it “required Lasix, powerful diuretics, to achieve.”
