Jason Momoa Shaves Head For Single-Use Plastic Awareness: ‘Be Better At Protecting Our Lands, Oceans’
Jason Momoa is shining light on the single-use plastic crisis. In protest against it, he shaved off his hair and encouraged netizens to “eliminate” the use of such plastics.
On Instagram, the 43-year-old actor posted a video, showing him as his head gets shaved. He first greets fans and followers, saying, “Aloha, everyone,” before he breaks into a laugh.
The “Game of Thrones” alum consequently asks someone off camera to hand him the sheared braids from his hair. As he shows them in the video, he explains why he decided to shave his head.
The Daily Mail, in its recent piece covering the matter, noted that Jason Momoa did it to “raise awareness” on the single-use plastic crisis today.
The outlet quoted the “See” actor from the video, ranting, “I’m tired of these plastic bottles. We got to stop [using] plastic forks. All that s*** [as] it goes into our land, into our ocean.”
It continues, “It’s just so sad, so please, anything you can do to eliminate single-use plastic in your lives, help me.”
In the latter part of the clip, Momoa encouraged viewers to use “canteens” and other reusable water bottles instead of plastic ones.
The post, which surfaced on the “Aquaman” star’s official Instagram account earlier on Tuesday, has since amassed more than 504,000 likes. Over 10,300 comments have emerged, as well, in the comments section.
Some netizens appear to love Jason Momoa’s new look in the clip. Others, however, seemingly expressed disagreements by commenting “no.”
Meanwhile, the DCEU star looks very welcoming to the latest change in his life. In the caption, he wrote, “Here’s to new beginnings, let’s spread the aloha.”
Momoa also emphasized that [everyone should] “be better at protecting our land and oceans,” noting that “we need to cut single-use plastics out of our lives and out of our seas.” He added that these plastics include “plastic bottles, plastic bags, packaging, utensils.”
The “Justice League” actor ended his post with, “Let’s aloha our ‘āina together aloha j,” and tagged “mananalu.water.”
This is not the first time Jason Momoa has done something in protest against the use of plastics.
In 2019, the “Wolves” actor shaved off his signature beard and showed it through a video on his YouTube channel. It was the first time he had shaved off his beard since 2012, according to People.
The magazine quoted Momoa’s caption of the material, writing, “Goodbye Drogo, Aquaman, Declan, [and] Baba! I’m shaving this beast off, it’s time to make a change.”
In the clip, the “Dune” actor stated that he wanted to do it “to bring awareness because plastics are killing our planet,” adding that he thought “we have a solution.” He continued, “[he does] not want to “b***h about it [but] there’s only one thing that will really help our planet and save our planet - as long as we recycle - and that’s aluminum.”
