Meghan Markle and Princess Diana never had the opportunity to meet. But if they did, the former would’ve hurt the latter with her never-ending digs against the royal family.

While speaking with Closer UK, Princess Diana’s former butler, Paul Burrell weighed in on Markle’s recent revelations in her podcast, Archetypes.

“Diana and Meghan are both independent spirits, they both fought or are fighting their own particular corner. But the difference between them is that Meghan’s completely commercialized herself and Diana never did. Diana kept within the boundaries of the royal family. She never ever criticized the queen or the institution. She was proud that she and her boys were members of the royal family,” he said.

Burrell said that another similarity that Markle and Princess Diana shared has to do with their desire to speak their own truth. When the Princess of Wales was still alive, one of her desires was to be heard. And this is what Markle has been trying to do.

“It takes a strength of character to do that. But at the end of the day, you have to ask yourself, ‘For what? What is the purpose?’ Diana’s purpose was to help people and strengthen the royal family; and although Meghan helps people too, she also strengthens her own brand,” he said.

Burrell also said that Markle seems to be directing, producing, and creating content to promote her own life story. Princess Diana, on the other hand, never did that. Prince William and Prince Harry’s late mother didn’t also have to be a social climber because she was born into aristocracy.

If she were still alive, Princess Diana would also be devastated by Prince William and Prince Harry’s ongoing feud. But she wouldn’t have allowed it to go on forever because she would’ve helped her sons resolve their issues early on.

Unfortunately, Princess Diana is no longer around so the brothers need to figure out a way how they can handle their issues. But this will only happen if they want to fix their rift in the first place.

For now, this doesn’t seem like their goal. So, no one knows for sure what the future holds for them.

While the comparisons between Princess Diana and Markle continue to persist, it’s evident that the two women are very different from one another.
