Jesse Tyler Ferguson Reveals He Replaced Ty Burrell In Officiating Sarah Hyland, Wells Adams Wedding
Jesse Tyler Ferguson officiated Sarah Hyland and Wells Adams’ wedding last weekend. But, he recently revealed that he was only a stand-in for his co-cast member from “Modern Family.”
Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, the 46-year-old celebrity revealed that Ty Burrell, who played Phil Dunphy, Hyland’s on-screen father, was pegged to perform the ceremony. But, he said he had to step in as his former co-star had to bow out due to a family emergency.
The outlet quoted the “Untraceable” actor, saying, “I don’t know if people know this, but Ty Burrell was meant to do it, and there was a family emergency. So, I got a phone call 12 days before the wedding, and that’s why Ty was not there, he had stuff going on.”
Jesse Tyler Ferguson noted, though, that he did lean on the “Incredible Hulk” actor for some assistance in officiating Sarah Hyland’s wedding to Wells Adams. He shared that he called his “Modern Family” co-star and asked about some “bullet points,” adding that he had to “fast track” it.
The Broadway actor continued that Ty Burrell “had not written anything up,” although “he had some ideas.” He consequently stated he was “honored to do it” and “very happy to understudy” his former co-star.
Elsewhere in the exchange, which took place at the premiere of his new film, “Ivy + Bean,” on Monday, Ferguson revealed that everyone from the cast of “Modern Family” was invited to the wedding. However, “not everyone could make it” due to undisclosed reasons.
Apart from Jesse Tyler Ferguson, the other cast members who were in attendance at Sarah Hyland’s wedding include Julie Bowen, Sofia Vergara, Nolan Gould, and Ariel Winter. They have posted several photos from the special event, which occurred on August 20 in Santa Barbara, California, on their respective social media accounts.
But, Ferguson shared that a lot of best moments happened off camera, noting that there were “so many moments.” He also stated that “it was so good to see everyone” and added that they “went right into it.”
Ariel Winter, who played Alex Dunphy, Sarah Hyland’s on-screen sister and Jesse Tyler Ferguson's on-screen niece, appeared to have been missing her co-stars. Over the weekend, she posted a “then vs. now” video of the “Modern Family” cast on Instagram.
The post featured photos from the set of the series and Hyland’s wedding. One of the most recent pictures was even edited to include Ty Burrell’s character, Phil Dunphy, who appeared to be on a gadget screen.
Winter also added an intro clip of herself with a subtext that reads, “Thinking about our mini ‘Modern Family’ reunion to celebrate Sarah & Wells.”
