Jason Momoa Discusses Reprising Khal Drogo Role In A ‘Game of Thrones’ Spinoff: ‘I’m Old’
More than a decade has passed since Jason Momoa played the role of Khal Drogo in HBO’s “Game of Thrones.” But, with the recent premiere of the series spinoff, “House of the Dragon,” the actor got to talking about the material, as well as the possibility of reprising the character.
Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, the 43-year-old celebrity quipped that he is now “old” to play the character. It came after the interviewer wondered whether there would be a “Khal Drogo prequel.”
Jason Momoa later emphasized that he is “too old now,” adding that “they gotta hire someone else now.”
Aside from discussing “Khal Drogo,” the “Aquaman” actor also shared his thoughts about the newest material from the “GoT” franchise. He stated that he has not seen it yet, but he is “excited” to watch it.
Jason Momoa added that he is “dying to see” the “House of the Dragon,” before deeming it “wonderful.”
The DCEU actor’s role in “Game of Thrones” was the husband of Emilia Clarke’s character, Daenerys Targaryen, with Page Six deeming the persona “controversial.”
Khal Drogo’s course in the series did not last long, though, unlike Daenerys. The character died before the first season concluded in 2011.
"Game of Thrones" ran from 2011 to 2019.
Meanwhile, “House of the Dragon,” the latest in the franchise, premiered on Sunday, bringing George R.R. Martin’s 2018 novel, “Fire & Blood,” to life. It is set 200 years before Daenerys Targaryen began her quest for the Iron Throne.
Per Variety, the series premiere drew in 9.99 million viewers across HBO and HBO Max. As noted, the viewership figures came from Warner Bros. Discovery, adding that the tally “includes linear airings, as well as HBO Max streams” during the premiere.
With the given number, the prequel material to “Game of Thrones” has reportedly become HBO’s biggest series premiere ever.
Elsewhere in the exchange with ET, Jason Momoa talked about the final season of his current project, “SEE.” The publication said he “gushed” over his role as a father, noting that it is his first time playing such a character in a series.
The outlet quoted the “Dune” star, saying, “I didn’t have the opportunity to play a dad in a series before… I love having a full arc. It’s not just killed off in the first season, or it just doesn’t end properly.
It continues, “It’s nice that it’s three seasons, and it’s catered to the final chapter, where you get to go through everything and see what happens, and it was intended that way.”
"SEE" Season 3 will premiere on August 26 on Apple TV+.
