Kate Middleton, Prince William Relocation To Adelaide Cottage Is A ‘Rare Misstep’, Royal Commentator Says
Kate Middleton and Prince William will relocate to the Queen’s Windsor estate. Following the confirmations, though, a royal commentator has deemed the move a “rare misstep.”
Express UK reported that the claims were from Richard Kay. As noted, it comes as the United Kingdom faces a “cost of living crisis,” which is said to be crippling the nation.
The publication quoted the royal commentator, writing for the Daily Mail, “The less charitable response, however, is that at a time of an exploding cost-of-living crisis affecting working families up and down the country, securing the use of an additional property looks clumsily insensitive.”
Kay reportedly continued that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge now having “three enviable addresses at their disposal is a rare misstep.”
The outlet explained that Prince William and Kate Middleton will retain their Apartment 1A in Kensington Palace as their official residence and their working base. As added, it will continue to house their office staff.
Aside from their London base, the future King and Queen Consort are said to continue to keep their Norfolk country estate, Anmer Hall.
The publication later recalled that the Apartment 1A was refurbished in 2013. The reported expense of over $5.2 million for the work is noted to have come from taxpayers.
Meanwhile, Anmer Hall was a gift from Queen Elizabeth II in celebration of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s wedding in 2011. It reportedly underwent building work at their own cost.
As for their new home, Adelaide Cottage, the outlet said it belongs to the Crown Estate. Queen Elizabeth II reportedly gave Prince William and Kate Middleton permission to lease the Grade II listed property.
Accordingly, it is stated that the Cambridge Royals will pay market value rent on the property, coming from their own private funds, and not from taxpayers’ money.
The cottage, which is on the Queen’s Windsor estate, features four bedrooms. People reported that it means their full-time live-in nanny will live elsewhere, “as will other staff.”
In other related assertions regarding Kate Middleton and Prince William’s move to Adelaide Cottage, columnist Dan Wootton described it as “highly significant.”
In a piece the expert wrote for Mail Online, he said that the relocation is “more than just a physical move from Kensington Palace.” He noted that the royal-born Prince is “sending a clear message to the Royal Family that… he views his most important job as being a dad.”
