New details about Wendy Williams in the days leading to the end of her stay on “The Wendy Williams Show” have emerged. It comes as insiders and producers shed light on the matter, with The Hollywood Reporter reporting the claims, published Wednesday.

The 13th season of the material was originally set for a September 20, 2021 release. But, it was pushed back due to several factors, causing longtime producers Mort Marcus and Ira Bernstein to set up a Zoom call between Williams and the show’s 100-person staff.

On September 30, the two television executives reportedly went to the talk show host’s Manhattan apartment with the plan to have the Shock Jockette “piped in, via Zoom, to the show’s studio in New York.”

Speaking to THR, Wendy Williams’ then-manager, Bernie Young, explained that the Zoom call was for the staff of “The Wendy Williams Show” because they “had questions.” He noted that the “idea was, ‘Look, they haven’t seen you or spoken to you, so let’s do this for the staff and let everybody know where things are.’”

The virtual engagement did not last long, though, with sources, who are said to be present at the call, claiming that Williams “did not seem herself.” It is also asserted that she was “much less able to communicate a clear message, as her speech quickly became muddled and disconnected.”

The publication quoted an insider, alleging, “[Wendy Williams] gets on and she starts rambling about ‘I’m really fine, it’s going to be fine,’ and it’s like, ‘What are you saying?” 

The same source also reportedly suggested that the television show host was “starting not to be coherent” during the Zoom call.

The executives were said to have noticed that their plan was backfiring. So, they ended the virtual engagement “abruptly” after thanking everyone for the time.

The production company’s Executive Vice President of Programming, Lonnie Burstein, also shared similar assertions about the “ill-fated” Zoom call. As noted, she was in the studio with the rest of the staff. 

The exec told the publication that the engagement “was not pretty,” noting that it only lasted “two and a half [to] three minutes.” She added that “people were sort of freaked out” as Wendy Williams “was saying things like, ‘Oh, I can’t wait, I’ll be back with you really soon.’”

Burstein argued, however, that “it was obvious to anyone watching that she was not going to be back really soon.”

Indeed, the talk show host never returned after the Zoom call.
