Princess Anne Once Confronted Princess Diana With ‘Searing Force Of Scorn’, Royal Biographer Claims
Princess Anne and Princess Diana faced feuding rumors in the 80s and 90s. A royal biographer even claimed that the royal-born Princess once made her sister-in-law flee the room after a confrontation.
Express UK unearthed the assertions Ingrid Seward made in one of her books. It is about the time when the Princess of Wales allegedly tried to “ingratiate” herself after sensing the Princess Royal’s “apathy toward her.”
Writing for her 1995 material, “Prince Edward,” the royal expert claimed that it all began “at an early head at the end of Ascot week in June 1981.” It was barely a month before the then-Lady Diana Spencer’s marriage to Prince Charles.
The outlet quoted Seward’s piece, noting, “[Diana had sense] Anne’s apathy toward her and wanting to ingratiate herself, she ventured up to the nursery in the Queen’s Tower where Anne was settling in with son Peter, who was three at the time, and her four-week-old daughter Zara.”
It continues, “Diana still only a Lady, gave the princess the benefit of a full curtsy and declared: ‘Ma’am, how wonderful to see you.’”
The royal biographer is said to have noted that Princess Anne is “contemptuous of pretension at the best of times.” She added that the royal “had no time for it at all,” especially when she was “struggling with two small children.”
Upon seeing and hearing Princess Diana, the royal-born Princess reportedly looked up at her and “looked straight through her.”
The then-bride-to-be of Prince Charles is claimed to have “fled the room” after experiencing the Queen’s daughter’s “searing force of scorn.”
It has remained unclear, though, whether the alleged “confrontation” between the two royals indeed happened. No word of confirmation has surfaced since the claims first emerged.
A separate report from Express UK recalled, nevertheless, that many believed Princess Anne and Princess Diana were in a “long-standing feud.”
But, in a resurfaced interview of the Prince and Princess of Wales from 1985, the late royal had seemingly quashed all the rumors of a rift.
When asked about having any sense of “living in a state of rivalry” between her and the Princess Royal, she stated that there was “none at all.” She even praised her sister-in-law, saying, “Princess Anne has been working incredibly hard.”
Princess Diana also revealed that she was the Queen’s daughter’s “biggest fan.” She explained that it was because she “could never achieve” what the royal-born Princess “crams into a day.”
The late royal later added that she and Princess Royal had always “hit it off very well.”
