A rep for Anne Heche confirmed her death on Friday, a week after the car crash happened. She was 53.

In an official statement shared with Page Six, the actress’s spokesperson said they “have lost a bright light, a kind and most joyful soul, a loving mother, and a loyal friend.” It is also stated that she “will be deeply missed,” although “she lives on through her beautiful sons, her iconic body of work, and her passionate advocacy.”

The rep for Heche continued that “her bravery for always standing in her truth, spreading her message of love and acceptance, will continue to have a lasting impact.”

The “Donnie Brasco” star’s death comes hours after she was declared brain dead. A spokesperson told publications on behalf of her friends and family that she was “not expected to survive,” noting that she suffered a “severe anoxic brain injury” due to the car crash.

It was revealed, however, that doctors were keeping Anne Heche on “life support” to determine if she was a match for organ donation. The rep shared that it had “long been her choice to donate her organs.”

Page Six quoted the rep, later saying, “She will be remembered for her courageous honesty and dearly missed for her light.”

Shortly after the confirmation of Anne Heche’s passing, her eldest son broke his silence and shared an official statement with People. He expressed sadness over his mother’s untimely death and revealed some of his thoughts about the actress.

The magazine quoted the 20-year-old’s message, writing, “After six days of almost unbelievable emotional swings, I am left with a deep, wordless sadness. Hopefully my mom is free from pain and beginning to explore what I like to imagine as her eternal freedom.”

Heche’s first-born child also expressed his gratitude and appreciation toward the people who have made their love and support known to the actress and the rest of the family.

He acknowledged that “thousands of friends, family, and fans made their hearts known” to him before noting he is “grateful for their love,” as he is for the support of his father and stepmother, “who continue to be [his] rock during this time.”

Anne Heche crashed her blue Mini Cooper into a residential property, igniting a fire earlier on August 5. Authorities said the vehicle was engulfed in flames, and the driver sustained severe burns, according to Us Weekly.

At the time, officials did not identify the female driver, although reports had already named the actress via sources. 

There were also claims that she was in stable condition the following day, but a rep for the “Volcano” star shortly confirmed she was in a coma, in critical condition, and had not regained consciousness since the accident.
