Shakira and Gerard Pique just announced their split after 10 years.

Now, a source told In Touch Weekly that even though the split shocked the fans, behind closed doors Shakira and Pique have already been having problems. As such, it was only a matter of time before the breakup.

“They’d been on the rocks for years, but friends are still surprised they actually broke up because they were trying to make it work for their family. Gerard’s alleged cheating apparently was the final nail in the coffin. Shakira kicked him to the curb,” the source said.

The source also said that Shakira has been having problems amid claims that she didn’t pay her taxes between 2012 and 2014 in Spain. But the singer insisted that she only relocated to Spain in 2015.

So, the timing of her issues with Pique became worrisome to the point that she couldn’t handle all the pressure. As a result, she ended up ending things with her longtime boyfriend.

“Shakira’s been on edge because of that and fighting with Gerard, so when she was confronted with the cheating issue, their relationship was already about to collapse. Shakira is short-tempered and can be difficult to be around and Gerard has always been independent. They’d get into the biggest bust-ups because their personalities are so different,” the source said.

During a previous interview, Shakira revealed that one of the biggest issues in their relationship was her punctuality. As such, the source claimed that this was also one of the reasons why they decided to end their relationship.

However, one should take the tabloid’s claims with a grain of salt. After all, Shakira did not say exactly why her relationship with Pique ended. In their joint statement, they revealed that they both agreed to split but will always have love and respect for each other.

The woman who was also being linked to Pique already denied the rumors that they had an affair.

“I would like to clarify that I do not know Gerard Pique at all, they have linked me to him without meaning because of the description of the supposed girl and they have awarded me the role-taking advantage of the fact that I do not have social media because I am doing my final exams,” she said (via Marca).
