'Justice League' Snyder Cut Set To Release Next Year On HBO Max
Back in Nov. last year, director Zack Snyder and his wife Deborah Snyder, who serves as a producing partner in the project, received a call from their agent. It was a Monday morning, the day after Justice League marked its second anniversary when Snyder, who had to depart from the project citing family emergency, received the call.
Following Snyder's departure, the DC superhero movie was retooled and reshot by Joss Whedon, who served as a replacement director. At the time of its release, a movement accompanied by hashtag #ReleasetheSnyderCut emerged, agitating petition, using a Times Square billboard, and even employing a plane to fly a banner over Comic-Con, urging the makers to release Snyder’s version of the film.
The hashtag marked its biggest day ever with actors Ben Affleck and Gal Gadot taking their official Twitter handles and joining in the movement. The next morning, their agent calls them to say that Warner Bros. Pictures chairman Toby Emmerich, was not only acknowledging the movement but was also willing to give the green light, according to Hollywood Reporter.
Zack Snyder says, Emmerich mentioned that people want to see it and asked them if they were interested in doing something. The answer to this question was already unveiled during the conclusion of an online screening of Emmerich's 2013's hit Man of Steel, wherein it is clearly evident that his Justice League version was more real.
Slated to debut in 2021, the much-awaited project is slated to come on HBO Max, which is WarnerMedia digital streaming service starting on May 27. It will be interesting to see what form Snyder’s version of Justice League adopts. In other words, there is a possibility that it could be released either in the form of a four-hour director’s cut or divided into six chapters, but nothing is set in stone yet.
In a bid to add newfangled visual effects, while finishing old ones, the Snyders have already started reassembling their postproduction crew members, who were a part of the original project. Aside from that, their focus is to bring as many of the actors back as they can to facilitate the process of recording additional dialogue.
Aside from that, details about the price tag attached to the project are still scarce. While one source suggests the project could set the makers back anywhere in the $20 million range, another source the endeavor could cost anywhere around $30 million. The parties involved, however, remained mum about the cost of the project.
