Prince William and Kate Middleton have reportedly been adapting more and more with the times.

In its May 23 issue, a source told Closer UK that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge want to be seen as a down-to-earth and modern couple, unlike their older counterparts.

As such, when Prince William and Middleton traveled to Manchester for their royal engagement, they were seen hugging some royal fans and cooing over some of the babies that they met there.

“They want to be more approachable, less formal, less stuffy, and breakaway with a lot of the tradition. The prince plans to tear up the rulebook and move with the times,” the source said.

While speaking with the publication, royal commentator Duncan Larcombe claimed that Prince William and Middleton’s attempts to modernize the British monarchy might not sit well with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

After all, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex want to be seen as the only approachable and modern couple within the royal family.

“Meghan always wanted to be modern royal and I think I always felt a bit like she had to live up to Kate’s standards. So, I imagine Meghan will be furious that Kate is now being hailed as the ‘modern royal’ herself and has stolen her thunder. I imagine there’s also a pang of regret that if they had stayed, they could have been the fab four modernizing the monarchy together,” the source said.

Meanwhile, Larcombe also weighed in on Prince Harry and Markle’s royal titles and the public’s desire to have them removed.

“I have no doubt Meghan could design a handbag and a range of perfumes but let’s not make any mistakes; she’ll be doing that as someone who was the duchess from the palace. So, Harry and Meghan cannot get rid of their titles, they’re trapped with them because they need their royal association. And that jars with their hopes to be modern and progressive,” he said.

As of late, there’s no indication that Prince Harry and Markle are upset with Prince William and Middleton trying to become more modern. And there’s also no indication that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex want their royal titles to be removed.

In fact, a lot of people are saying that Prince Harry and Markle should be stripped of their royal titles, but they continue to use them.
