Kanye West Net Worth 2022 (Updated): When Did Kim Kardashian's Ex Become An Official Billionaire?
Kanye West is widely regarded as one of the most influential and greatest musicians in the world. But, apart from music, he has also made a name in various industries, like fashion.
With his apparent fame and success today, it would not come as a surprise that he has amassed a whopping wealth over the years. As it happens, he is worth $2 billion, and is only one of the few black billionaires in the world, according to Forbes.
The 44-year-old celebrity has had an impressive financial background since the late 2000s. But, he only became an official billionaire in the summer of 2020.
Forbes noted at the time that they did not name him one, despite all the requests from Kanye West. As explained, there was not enough documentation on the rapper’s “unusual stake,” adding that there were only “his word” and “industry guesstimates.”
But, the confirmation of his status emerged in April 2020 when the “Through The Wire” artist directed his team to provide an “authentic numeric look” into his empire. The documents also gave an insight into his overall brand, especially Yeezy.
As Parade puts it, Yeezy makes up most of Kanye West’s current net worth. In 2020 alone, the brand had a revenue of $1.3 billion, although it was said to be unclear as to how much he made from the figure.
The “All Of The Lights” rapper first entered the world of fashion in the late 2000’s. Celebrity Net Worth claimed that he was the “first non-athlete” to close a deal with Nike, resulting in the release of the 2009 Air Yeezys sneaker.
In the years that followed, West went on to design more footwear pieces and collaborate with prominent labels, including Bape, Louis Vuitton, and Giuseppe Zanotti. He also reportedly dropped clothing lines at Paris Fashion Week in 2011 and 2012.
More than a year later, Adidas confirmed its collaboration with Kanye West. After the massive successes of the early releases, the brand announced its long-term contract with the "Gold Digger" singer in 2016.
Reports pointed out that the “Yeezus” artist is the sole owner of the Yeezy brand.
Earlier this year, Forbes said that Kanye West is one of the top and highest-paid entertainers of 2022. He takes the fifth spot on the list, with a figure of $235 million, closely following Dwayne Johnson’s $270 million.
In the “College Dropout” artist’s profile, it noted that he now earns most of his wealth from his Yeezy brand.
