Shailene Woodley Once Considered Quitting Acting Following Film Debut Success
Shailene Woodley began her acting career at a young age. But, after having her official film debut in 2011, she considered quitting due to the apparent pressure.
Cheat Sheet reported that the 30-year-old actress shared the revelation in a 2013 interview with Interview Magazine. It came after she received praise and recognition for her role in “The Descendants,” which led her to her Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actress.
Woodley recalled that she won an Independent Spirit Award for the same role. Although she described it as “amazing,” she said it led her to “feeling a pressure” she had never felt before.
She continued that people were waiting to see what she would do next after the film and her awards. This caused the build-up of pressure that she should be “good” as many would watch her.
With this at hand, Shailene Woodley noted that it all resulted in her not wanting to act anymore. She pointed out, though, that it especially took place in a “period after doing press for ‘The Descendants.’”
Despite having such thoughts, however, the “Big Little Lies” star still continued on with her career. She shared that it was her loved ones who reminded her why she began acting in the first place.
Woodley stated that her mother and one of her best friends talked to her about the matter. As per her revelation, they made her remember that she had “never acted for anyone else,” so she had “just got to ignore all the other stuff and do it for [herself].”
The following year after her interview, Shailene Woodley starred in the blockbuster action thriller, “Divergent.” ET Online even deemed that she was “on her way to becoming Hollywood’s next ‘it’ girl” at the time.
She rose further to fame with her stint for the film series. She reprised her role as Beatrice “Tris” Prior in the next two titles from the franchise, “Insurgent” and “Allegiant.”
Woodley also worked on other prominent movies, including “The Fault In Our Stars,” “Snowden,” “Adrift,” and “Endings, Beginnings.” Some of her latest works are “The Last Letter From Your Lover” and “The Fallout,” both of which premiered in 2021.
Shailene Woodley has more upcoming titles under her belt. These include “Misanthrope,” which is now in post-production, “Robots,” and “The Fence,” according to Cinema Blend.
As for television shows and series, some of the actress’s biggest projects were “Big Little Lies” and “The Secret Life of an American Teenager.” She is also reportedly currently filming a new title, “Three Women.”
