Vanessa Lachey and Nick Lachey have been married for years, but it took them quite some time to trust each other.

In its May 9 issue, OK! magazine claimed that Nick’s history of being a playboy did not bode well for Vanessa.

So, after she gave him an ultimatum to marry her or else, the couple’s marriage continued to struggle.

A source claimed that Vanessa couldn’t trust Nick at the beginning of their marriage. And it also reached a point wherein she would secretly check her husband’s phone.

“Vanessa had a very tough time trusting Nick at first and used to go through his phone all the time. He doesn’t like to admit it, but Nick was checking up on her too,” the source said.

The source also claimed that Vanessa has always had anxiety over Nick’s A-list ex-girlfriends. The latter was previously linked to Jessica Simpson.

“Jessica was this uber-famous star, and it was very intimidating for Vanessa. It took a long time and a lot of support from Nick to put those feelings of insecurity behind her,” the source said.

One of the things that have helped Vanessa and Nick’s marriage is couples therapy. And they have allegedly been going to therapy even before they tied the knot.

Another thing that worked to save the couple’s marriage is their decision to step away from Hollywood. The couple and their three children currently reside in Hawaii.

“When Vanessa started doing NCIS: Hawaii, she was planning to commute but then they fell in love with the island life. It’s a much slower pace than L.A. and they’re the happiest they’ve ever been. They’ve had their bumps but refused to give up on each other. So, now their life really is as perfect as it seems,” the source said.

The couple recently hosted The Ultimatum on Netflix, a reality TV show that features a group of couples that are either ready to settle down or not.

During the reunion episode, Vanessa revealed that she urged Nick to marry her since they have already been dating for years at the time.

The actress said that if she didn’t give Nick an ultimatum to tie the knot with her, he might have not proposed.

On the show, the couple also showed how united they are and how similar their stands are on controversial topics. This showed that they are indeed a wonderful couple.
