Chris Hemsworth Reveals He Once 'Got Pretty Bored' Playing Thor
Chris Hemsworth once felt the need to change the character of Thor for its third film in the franchise. He reportedly believed that there was something more for the role than he was originally written in the material.
Cheat Sheet recalled the moment the actor revealed how he “got pretty bored” of himself playing the said character. He added that the director of “Thor: Ragnarok,” Taika Waititi felt the same at the time.
As noted, Hemsworth made his revelations during an engagement with Jimmy Kimmel for his show, “Jimmy Kimmel Live.” It aired back in October 2017, days ahead of the premiere of the third “Thor” movie.
The Marvel actor said they had “the same sort of want and need and passion” to change the narrative and character “up in a big way.” He, then, recalled a meeting with Waititi earlier in the process of making “Thor: Ragnarok.”
Considering the director felt the same as he did, he reportedly told Chris Hemsworth that they should “break everything” they know and “destroy it and rebuild it.” The decision led them to “do something different,” adding that they “improvised” everyday.
The publication, later on, concluded that all of these eventually resulted in the actor, as well as the production to produce a “more comedic iteration” of Thor. This is, also, said to be the character that fans have come to know to date.
In Britannica’s dedicated page for Chris Hemsworth, it states that the actor "was especially praised” for his performance in “Thor: Ragnarok.” Although, his apparent worldwide fame emerged when he starred as the titular character in the Marvel’s franchise of the film.
Hemsworth first played the role of Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2011. Kenneth Branagh directed the film, which seemingly served as the introductory material for the superhero.
This is, however, not the first acting job of the actor. His career in the industry officially began in the early 2000s, especially after starring as King Arthur in the fantasy television series, “Guinevere Jones.”
Chris Hemsworth has come a long way since he entered the world of entertainment. More than five years after “Thor: Ragnarok” and three years after “Avengers: Endgame,” he is reprising his role as the Norse god, Thor, in one of the MCU’s upcoming films, “Thor: Love and Thunder.”
The official trailer for the movie first emerged earlier this month. Games Radar said that the character of Thor appears to be “doing some serious soul-searching” in the new installment of the film franchise.
Aside from Hemsworth, Taika Waititi is, also, serving as the director of the material. He is returning, as well, to play the role of Korg.
“Thor: Love and Thunder” will officially drop on July 8, 2022.
