Anne Hathaway Elicited Genuine Reaction From Co-Stars After Having Unscripted Fall In 'Princess Diaries'
Anne Hathaway fell on the bleachers while filming a scene for her iconic movie, “The Princess Diaries.” Despite the accidental slip, though, she continued her lines, causing the filmmakers to include it in the film.

Hathaway’s fall in the 2001 hit, “The Princess Diaries,” made the cut and obtained the tenth spot. The scene shows the actress, who played the role of Mia, talking to her best friend Lilly (Heather Matarazzo) on their school’s basketball court and bleachers.
As they discuss the implications of Mia taking her post as a royal-born princess, they walk up and down the wet bleachers. While Anne Hathaway tries to climb up, she slips and clatters down, causing her to laugh while her co-stars look shocked. The publication noted that the entire encounter was genuine as it was all unscripted and accidental.
“The Princess Diaries” became a commercial success, and has since been a well-loved film of many individuals, especially young ones. Alongside the material’s massive feat, Hathaway had her breakthrough because of her debut title.
Even so, the “Ocean’s 8” star reportedly once revealed that her role as Mia Thermopolis in the 2001 hit ended up “pigeonholing her and hurting her career.” As claimed, the character gave her the “good girl reputation,” and she had to shake it for more than a decade.
Despite this, though, it did not stop Anne Hathaway from reaching new heights in her career in Hollywood. She went on to star in some of the most iconic films of all time, including “The Dark Knight,” “Les Miserables,” and “The Devil Wears Prada.”
The actress received numerous nominations and awards for her roles over the years.
In 2021, Anne Hathaway and some of her co-stars in “The Princess Diaries,” celebrated the film’s 20th anniversary. They took their “throwback” photos to Instagram and recalled some memories from their time doing the movie.
Entertainment Weekly released a report on the matter, sharing what Hathaway, Mandy Moore, and Heather Matarazzo had said upon looking back at their roles in the iconic film. As noted, the two latter actresses played the characters of the mean girl Lana and Mia’s best friend, Lilly, respectively.
The three stars shared several photos from the set, which took place more than two decades ago. Some of the images feature their other co-stars, like Julie Andrews and Sandra Oh.
