Prince Charles Urged To 'Step Aside', Give Way To Prince William In Royal Succession: Study
Prince Charles is the Heir Apparent, and it means he will become the King of the United Kingdom after Queen Elizabeth II. But, some individuals reportedly believe he should give way to Prince William.
Express UK said that this dynamic comes from the results of a recent Ipsos study. Out of the 2,055 respondents, about 42 percent want to see the Duke of Cambridge ascend to the British Throne rather than the Prince of Wales.
The same poll, also, notes that only 24 percent of the total data population are in favor of the Queen’s first-born son becoming the next British Monarch, and “should not stand aside” for his son. Meanwhile, 29 percent reportedly have no “strong feelings either way.”
The Ipsos study virtually surveyed individuals between ages 16 and 75. The poll began on March 24 and concluded the day after, resulting in over 2,000 respondents from the United Kingdom.
Apart from the participants’ thoughts about Prince Charles’ reign as the next British Monarch, the poll, also, found out how much the royal’s favorability ratings have grown over the years. As reported, he gained 11 percentage points in the last four years.
In 2018, 43 percent of over a thousand respondents spoke positively of the Prince of Wales. On the other hand, 25 percent of the data population was not in favor of him.
Regardless of the essential gains in favorability and popularity ratings, many of the polled individuals still want to see Prince William on the throne, bypassing Prince Charles. However, this is highly unlikely to happen, according to experts.
Insider explained that parliamentary statutes dictate that “descent, legitimacy, religion, and sex for anyone born after October 28, 2011” are the factors influencing the succession to the British Crown. Hence, the royals and the public have no say in this matter.
Automatically, the Prince of Wales will become the King of the United Kingdom when Queen Elizabeth II passes away. The Duke of Cambridge would only become the next monarch to his grandmother if his father passes away before the Queen, as per expert Robert Hazell.
Another way Prince William could become King after Queen Elizabeth II is if Prince Charles chose to abdicate the throne. As reiterated by Good To Know, the royal line of succession is “regulated by Parliament, and cannot be altered by the monarchy.”
The Duke of Cambridge is the second person in line to the throne. His and Kate Middleton’s three children are in the third, fourth, and fifth places, making Prince Harry the sixth.
