Prince Harry Popularity, Favorability Has ‘Plummeted’ Since Marrying Meghan Markle
Prince Harry was among the British Royals who had high favorability ratings. But, things have since changed, especially after marrying Meghan Markle in 2018.
Express UK reported that the latest polls show the royal-born Prince’s ratings dropped 35 percentage points in the last five years. As noted, the studies are from Ipsos, which made comparisons of its polls between 2018 and 2022.
In the latest survey, which was conducted from March 24 to March 25, only three in ten people reportedly find the Duke of Sussex favorable and popular. On the other hand, about 43 percent of the 2,055 U.K. respondents are in favor of the former working royal.
Similar to Prince Harry, his wife, Meghan Markle, also, seemingly shows the same trend in favorability and popularity ratings. As reported, there is a 16-percentage point drop from 2018 to 2022.
In the latest polls from the same study, 24 percent of the total data population find her popular. But, half of the overall number is said to have negative remarks about her.
The publication, later on, noted that only Prince Andrew performed worse than the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in the said study. A whopping 69 percent of over 2,000 Britons find him unpopular and unfavorable, while only 11 percent have a positive impression of him.
This appears to be the case, as well, in the United States, where Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are currently residing. As claimed, the former working royals are “not as popular with the American public as U.S. press coverage suggests,” according to The Mirror.
The assertions came after the pair had their bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey earlier in 2021. As noted, the media coverage across the country was “much more sympathetic” to them, leading to the notion that they were popular and well-liked in the United States.
But, a citizen told the outlet’s “Pod Save the Queen” podcast that the American public had noticed “lots of holes” in the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s stories. It was, also, emphasized that their “poor little rich couple” narrative amid the COVID-19 pandemic appeared “ridiculous” before their audience.
Months after the shocking engagement with Oprah Winfrey, a royal expert spoke with The Sun and shared some thoughts about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. As asserted, the general public is already “fed up” with the former working royals’ “witterings.”
Phil Dampier explained that both in the U.S. and the U.K., people of all ages are “tiring of [the Duke and Duchess of Sussex]’s “constant woke outbursts.” He, also, added that the two, especially the royal-born Prince, have become “very unpopular” in the last five years.
