Jada Pinkett Smith Said She Doesn't Care What People Think About Her Bald Head Before Oscars
“Be proud of your crown” is one of the things Jada Pinkett Smith wrote in the caption of her recent video on TikTok. She opened up about her hair journey in the material, which she shared days before the Oscars.
People said that the actress, who is living with alopecia, got “candid” about the matter in the clip. She began by sharing her challenges in the past, wherein she had to do her hair “in ways that did not feel natural” to her because she was “trying to play the game.”
She revealed she always liked her hair “out wild and curly.” However, having it “look as European as possible was always the thing.”
In the latter part of the video, Pinkett Smith stated that she had to “learn to get the courage” to do otherwise, adding that she feels the “freedom today" due to her condition. She, then, concluded that she does not “give two craps what people think of this bald head of [hers]” before saying, “because… I love it.”
Jada Pinkett Smith has been open about her alopecia and hair journey since 2018. She first talked about the condition in an episode of her show “Red Table Talk.”
She revealed that “it was terrifying” when it began. She recalled that she was in the shower one day and saw “handfuls of hair” in her hands.
The “Gotham” actress, also, shared that it was one of the times in her life when she was “literally shaking in fear.” She, later on, stated that it was the reason why she had cut her hair, and why she had continued to do so.
In 2021, Jada Pinkett Smith decided to shave her head. She reportedly made headlines upon debuting it in a video on Instagram.
At the time, the actress told fans and followers that she could “only laugh.” She explained that it would become “a little bit more difficult” for her to hide it, so she thought to share it with them.
The 50-year-old celebrity’s condition has received much more attention following the Oscars on Sunday. Chris Rock poked fun at her bald head and made a joke about seeing her in the next “G.I. Jane” film.
It caused Jada Pinkett Smith’s husband, Will Smith to storm the stage and slap the comedian across the face. Reports claimed, however, that the “Grown Ups” actor was not aware of the actress’s condition.
