Prince William Leaves BAFTA 'Very Disappointed' After 'Snubbing' Awarding Ceremony, Insiders Claimed
Prince William is not attending this year’s BAFTA Film Awards. This reportedly left the heads of the academy “very disappointed” as they were expecting his attendance.
Express UK reported that the allegations first emerged on The Mirror after sources spoke of the matter. As noted, the royal-born Prince declined the invitation due to “diary constraints.”
It is said to be “such a shame” that he will miss the annual awards again. “Everyone is very disappointed,” adding that it is “most unfortunate” for the president of the organization not to be at the event.
The insiders continued that the purpose of the BAFTAs is to “recognize, honor, and reward” individuals for their outstanding achievements in feature films. “Prince William is always a huge draw,” considering this year’s event is the “first year back in person” following the COVID-19 pandemic.
It is unclear, however, whether the latest story is legitimate. The informants did not provide any proof to support the allegations.
In addition, a spokesman for BAFTA announced that they are “delighted” as the Duke of Cambridge, who is the president, will still participate in the upcoming awarding ceremony. He will give a message on the night of the event via pre-recorded video.
Prince William’s absence at the upcoming BAFTA Film Awards will be the second time he will miss the annual event. In 2021, he dropped out of the awards night following the death of Prince Philip.
At the time, BAFTA released an official statement, confirming the absence of the Duke of Cambridge. It stated that he would no longer be part of the programming, adding that their “thoughts are with the [British] Royal Family,” to whom they offer their “deepest sympathy.”
Variety then said that the royal-born Prince normally attends the ceremony with his wife, Kate Middleton.
While Prince William will not be in attendance this year, the schedule of the programming will go as planned. It will take place on March 13, and BBC One will broadcast the material in the United Kingdom.
Rebel Wilson, who previously had a presenting duty at the event, will host the ceremony. In 2020, she presented the Best Director BAFTA Award, which Sam Mendes won for “1917.”
The “Pitch Perfect” actress recently told hosts of the BBC’s “The One Show” that she communicates with a “mystery member” of the British Royal Family to determine if her jokes have their seal of approval, according to Newsweek.
