Meghan Markle, Prince Harry 'Over-Extended' Themselves With US Deals: Expert
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle may have “over-extended” themselves with their deals in the United States. This comes as the former working royals have yet to produce a significant number of content for Netflix and Spotify.
Cheat Sheet reported that the claims came from Pauline Maclaran, who co-authored “Royal Fever: The British Monarchy in Consumer Culture.” She told Express UK that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex seem to be “involved in so much” these days.
The royal expert continued that the pair appears to have begun building a “media empire with insufficient foundations.” This dynamic has become more apparent as it has already become difficult to “see where their focus really lies.”
When asked whether this may affect their future in the field negatively, Pauline Maclaran noted that it could. She explained that there is “a lot of doubt now surrounding their abilities to produce content.”
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s lack of content delivery might reportedly make other companies “think twice” before closing a deal with them. But, even so, this all depends on Netflix and Spotify, especially their respective executives as to whether they consider this as a “failure” on the former working royals’ part.
In the end, the royal expert asserted that the two companies, “perhaps,” may be willing to wait for higher quality productions from the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. Maclaran believes, however, that Netflix and Spotify are, also, possibly “wondering if the couple have over-extended themselves.”
Express UK, later on, said that Spotify was reportedly expecting content from Meghan Markle and Prince Harry last year following the employment of podcast producer Rebecca Sananes at Archewell Audio in the summer of 2021. The company had even announced that they were “looking forward to sharing more content” later in the same year.
As for the deal with Netflix, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced their desire to produce content that “informs but also gives hope.” But, similar to the scenario with Spotify, the two former working royals, alongside their company, have yet to deliver much.
Meanwhile, a royal analyst and commentator has a different perspective toward Meghan Markle and Prince Harry. As asserted, they could have “underestimated” the work that their deals entail.
Speaking to an episode of Mail Plus’ “Palace Confidential,” Richard Eden stated that he wonders about it, citing the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s interview with Oprah as the basis. He recalled that the royal-born Prince “sort of just said" they were short of money, so they thought of doing the deals.
In the end, Eden emphasized that the royal did not seemingly show “any kind of enthusiasm or commitment.”
