Simon Cowell and Lauren Silverman are engaged.

But according to In Touch Weekly, in its Jan. 31 issue, the proposal almost didn’t happen because Cowell wasn’t keen on tying the knot with his longtime girlfriend. However, Silverman wouldn’t take no for an answer.

A source claimed that Silverman threatened to expose Cowell’s secrets from his past if he wouldn’t propose to her. As such, America’s Got Talent judge was left with no other choice but to pop the question.

“She pushed the idea of marriage once again, and Simon was not happy. He has a very dark secret in his past and Lauren knows what it is. He told her at one point what had happened. If the secret got out, it would ruin him so he can’t risk losing her,” the source said.

The insider also claimed that Cowell had no other choice but to propose to his baby mama. After all, Silverman has been pressuring him to propose to her for years.

“Lauren has been pressuring him to marry her for years, but he never wanted to, and it suddenly happened out of nowhere? It’s an engagement of convenience – a crisis engagement. It all comes back to his big secret. Marrying Lauren assures him it will stay secret,” the source said.

However, one should take the tabloid’s claims with a grain of salt.

It’s quite difficult to believe that Cowell is keeping a secret when there’s no indication of what this is all about. It’s easy to say that the producer is keeping a secret and not providing details because this claim is just made up.

Cowell is also of age so it’s unlikely for him to be manipulated into marrying someone that he doesn’t want to be with for the rest of his life.

America’s Got Talent judge proposed to Silverman because he wants to marry her and not because he’s afraid that she’ll expose his secret what that may be.

It’s not also true that Silverman wants to destroy Cowell’s reputation that’s why she pressured him into proposing to her. The couple has been together for quite some time and they also know each other very well so it’s unlikely for them to want to take each other out.

As of late, there’s still no confirmation when and where the couple’s wedding will take place. But it will surely be a ceremony to remember.
