Drew Barrymore is allegedly worried about her talk show being canceled at the end of Season 2.
In its Jan. 17 issue, Star claimed that Barrymore was lucky enough to have The Drew Barrymore Show renewed for Season 2. But a third season doesn’t seem to be in the works because the ratings have deteriorated tremendously.
“Drew’s ratings started out horrible and while they’ve picked up a bit during this season, it’s probably not enough for her to get renewed for a third. Drew leaned on friends to help boost ratings but just hasn’t turned things around,” the source said.
The Drew Barrymore Show has only been getting 500,000 viewers while its competitor, The Kelly Clarkson Show has been raking in 2.5 million viewers.
“Staffers are seeing the writing on the wall. Drew’s hard work and upbeat attitude can’t save the show, so people are putting their resumes out there, looking for new jobs. She’s put her love life on hold to work on the show and take care of her girls. Not having to pour her heart and soul into work would let her get back to it,” the source said.
As a means to help boost the ratings for The Drew Barrymore Show, the people behind the talk show decided to invite Jennifer Aniston in a previous episode. The former child star has also spoken to several other A-listers throughout the past two years.
However, there’s no proof that Barrymore is worried about the fate of The Drew Barrymore Show. After all, there are some instances wherein the ratings of the show aren’t doing that well but they are still renewed because of the support of fans.
It is also important to note that so many programs can now be viewed via streaming platforms and this most definitely affects the ratings of TV shows.
Meanwhile, Barrymore also made headlines last year amid claims that she banned Winona Ryder from appearing on her show.
At the time, National Enquirer claimed that Ryder and Barrymore used to be each other’s biggest competition because joined the industry around the same time.
So, now that Barrymore has her own show, she told her staff and crew that Ryder cannot make an appearance no matter what.
But even if Ryder has not been featured in The Drew Barrymore Show, it’s not because she’s been banned by the host. It’s possible that this is due to scheduling conflicts.
