Meghan Markle is celebrating a big win in her privacy case against the Associated Newspapers and Daily Mail. However, a royal commentator said that this moral victory could have a detrimental impact on the Duchess of Sussex in the future.
In his column for Closer UK Dec. 15 issue, Duncan Larcombe said that Markle’s victory is already affecting her and Prince Harry’s multi-year deal with Spotify.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have not released any content for the platform except for the podcast that they launched a year ago.
“Meghan and Harry quickly built up a lucrative brand by signing contracts with all these big names. However, we’ve seen very little content. The silence around it is deafening. It could be that the court case has taken center stage and prevented them from doing more,” he said.
And since there are ongoing questions regarding the couple’s credibility, it’s possible that Netflix and Spotify both decided to postpone their projects amid fears that no one would tune in.
The revelation that Markle and Prince Harry had some involvement in Finding Freedom has also taken a toll in the couple’s relationship with the royal family, as well as Markle’s dad, Thomas Markle Sr.
Larcombe said that Markle winning the privacy case just brought her farther away from her dad.
“If she’d lost the appeal, they may have had to come face to face in another court hearing and maybe there was a small chance of reconciliation. But now, they can go on with their lives with him still totally cut out. It seems her and Harry’s relationship with each of their families are worse than ever,” Larcombe said.
Markle’s recent privacy case win could also result in more damaging claims being made against the Suits alum. After all, more investigations will take place so more information about Markle – both good and bad – will also be unveiled.
The Duchess of Sussex released a statement after winning her lawsuit against Associated Newspapers and Daily Mail and said that it’s not just for her but for all those who have been afraid to speak up.
Prince Harry’s wife did not say anything about her worries or the possible downsides to winning the lawsuit because she’s just focused on the court agreeing that the case shouldn’t head to a trial.
As such, Larcombe’s claims are based entirely on his opinion.
