Alec Baldwin is allegedly accused of murdering Rust's assistant director, Halyna Hutchins.
In its Nov. 15 issue, National Enquirer claimed that there is an ongoing investigation regarding the incident that took place last month.
At the time, Baldwin was rehearsing a scene from his upcoming movie in New Mexico when he fired a loaded gun that killed Hutchins and injury the film’s director.
Shortly after the incident, an ambulance rushed to the set and the paparazzi photographed Baldwin looking distraught.
Now, a source for the tabloid is saying that Baldwin had a lot of enemies in the industry. And it’s possible that he purposely shot the assistant director for revenge.
While his claims have not been proven, the tabloid insisted that it’s possible that what happened was not an accident.
“If you’d want to murder someone on the set, there was both the means and the opportunity. It was a sloppy set, safety-wise, and everyone knew it. On the morning of the fatal accident, a number of crew members had access to the pistol involved in the shooting,” the source said.
The Santa Fe County District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies said that they haven’t ruled out anything. And the tabloid claimed that this means Baldwin is still not off the hook.
If convicted, the actor could allegedly face manslaughter, negligent homicide, or even murder for anyone who handled the weapon on the set of Rust.
Meanwhile, an expert also said that Baldwin could be in danger following a comment that he made after the accident.
The actor was videotaped saying that the Rust set was a well-oiled machine. The expert said that saying this made it seem as though Baldwin is the one at fault because if the set was a well-oiled machine then it means that everything was going perfectly well and security measures were employed.
As of late, investigations are still ongoing and Baldwin has also been saying that he’s been meeting with Hutchins’ husband and 9-year-old son. He is also cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
However, one should take the tabloid's claims suggesting that the actor could go to prison for what he's done.
There are no claims that Baldwin can be convicted of anything because this isn’t something that will be decided on by the tabloid. Instead, only those investigating the accident and police officers involved in the case and eventually, a judge can make this important decision.
