Ahead of the official premiere of Stargirl season 2, the series creator of the superhero drama teased what’s coming ahead in the new chapter.
WARNING! Spoilers for the first season are coming ahead. Read at your own risk.
In season 1, the titular heroine (Brec Bassinger) and the Justice Society of America (JSA) won the battle against the Injustice Society of America (ISA). While this is a triumphant moment for everyone, that doesn’t mean that no more threats are coming in Stargirl season 2.
At the end of the first installment, Cindy Burman (Meg DeLacy) seeks out one of the most terrifying villains in the universe, Eclipso. Now, his arrival suggests that the tone of the second outing will become much darker and terrifying compared to what was seen in the previous one.
In fact, series creator Geoff Johns said that the dark tone will immediately play out in the premiere of the second installment. Although he didn’t go into further details, Johns teased in a press event that the opening of Stargirl season 2 is going to bring frightening moments to everyone.
"That first scene was purposely at the top and mysterious and both specific and vague at the same time because I wanted everyone to know there's a tonal shift this season," Johns revealed.
The series creator confirmed that viewers will see that tonal shift right away – which is scary and dark. After that, it will become summertime blues again, like nothing’s going on. But, Johns made it clear that their goal is to set the tone right away to inform viewers that the latest installment would be a scary one.
When it comes to Eclipso’s presence in Stargirl season 2, he said that fans will see him “a little deeper into the season.” He shared that they wanted to build up his arrival, something that’s “felt deserved.” The character is played by Nick Tarabay.
“And I think when people see that episode, hopefully, they'll be both happy and scared when they watch it," Johns said, referring to the episode of Eclipso’s introduction.
Meanwhile, series star Joy Osmanski (Paula Brooks/Tigress) previously revealed to Orlando's WESH 2 that the next installment delivers too much terror that her children will not be watching. She said that story gets a lot darker this time around and the evil forces are genuinely scary, as well.
Stargirl season 2 is scheduled to arrive on Tuesday, August 10 at 8/7c, on The CW.
