Angelina Jolie is ready to cut all ties with Brad Pitt. She now wants to sell her part of the Château Miraval, the French castle and winery, which the ex-couple used to share, though she simply can't do so.
Jolie can't make this move unless the court lifts the automatic temporary restraining order that prevents them from making any financial decisions that may affect their divorce proceedings.
The A-list star had now filed a petition asking the judge to remove the restraining order on the transfer of their assets, which was automatically put in place when they filed for divorce.
According to TMZ, Jolie has now found a third-party buyer for Nouvel, LLC, but cannot proceed with the deal with the barrier still in place. Thus, she wants the freeze to be removed immediately.
The "Maleficent" star's lawyers say they already contacted Pitt's legal team to talk about the issue - hoping they can resolve the claim without holding a formal hearing but to no avail. His legal team says they will get back to Jolie about this.
The publication claims Jolie is now worried that she may lose the deal, so she goes directly to the court and has a judge intervene.
"After all these years of trying to extricate herself from being business partners with her ex-husband on acceptable financial terms, Ms. Jolie is extremely desirous of closing the pending agreement for the sale of Nouvel, LLC," the court documents, obtained by Us Weekly, read. "And requests that the Court issue an order lifting the ATROs and specifying that they shall not apply to Ms. Jolie's sale of Nouvel, LLC."
The emergency application was filed on June 30 so that the third-party buyer would not back out from the deal. Anyhow, the judge ruled Jolie's team had not proved any "immediate danger/irreparable harm or immediate loss/damage to property" to approve the claim.
But, the humanitarian's legal counsel asserts the property is solely Jolie's, to begin with, since it was bought even before they got married in 2014. They now requested a hearing to be held on Sept. 22 to ask the judge to lift the restraining order again so that she can pursue the sale.
Nouvel is the LLC that started to operate Château Miraval in Provence, which Jolie and Pitt bought for about $60 million in 2011. There are no reports about how much the company is now worth, though the business is incredibly booming. (Business Times)
