Meghan Markle was allegedly scheduled to attend a lavish baby shower being hosted by some of her closest friends. However, she was forced to cancel the event at the last minute.
In its May 24 issue, Us Weekly claimed that Markle decided to cancel the event because she didn’t want to receive more criticism.
The Duchess of Sussex understands that there’s still a pandemic across the globe so spending thousands or even millions on her baby shower didn’t seem like it’s the right thing to do.
“She’s very aware of how hosting a large-scale bash would be received during the middle of a pandemic and she doesn’t want to play into the false narrative that she’s insensitive or hypocritical,” the source said.
Instead, Markle and Prince Harry will be hosting a small celebration at their house before the former gives birth to their daughter. And they will play games and eat together, but the gathering will be far from being fancy.
“Meghan doesn’t feel a big celebration with gifts is appropriate right now. She knows she’s already under scrutiny,” the source said.
As for Prince Harry, the soon-to-be dad of two is reportedly excited to welcome his daughter. And he has vowed to put his children and wife above his work commitments.
And even though the Duke of Sussex has committed to working with BetterUp, everyone around him knows that he won’t be available the minute Markle gives birth.
Meanwhile, some tabloids have also been claiming that Markle has already given birth to her daughter. After all, she missed the Vax Live recording earlier this month even though she and Prince Harry confirmed their attendance at the event.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have proven to be very secretive. So, the tabloids are convinced that they would be able to pull it off if they decide to not announce that Markle has already given birth.
In March, Markle and Prince Harry told Oprah Winfrey that their televised wedding was already their second time tying the knot. The couple also wed in their backyard without any guests.
So, they reportedly have two wedding dates. And the one that was televised is the one that appears on their marriage certificate.
As such, it is possible that Markle and Prince Harry’s daughter will also have two birthdates. But it is unclear if this is something that the couple would do now that they are no longer considered as senior working royals.
